Abstract

Description: Block A (Former Grammar Block) at Eirias High School currently derives LTHW (low temperature hot water) for heating purposes from the boiler room located at lower ground floor in Block A. Low Temperature Hot Water(LTHW) generated by gas fired floor mounted condensing boilers is routed via a plate heat exchanger to flow and return headers, a variety of CT & VT circuits are derived from the headers to serve the various blocks in the school. The circuit serving Block A is configured as a variable temperature (VT) circuit, with pipework distributed from the boiler room to emitters in floor ducts. The pipework in the floor ducts is in poor condition and is prone to leaks and requires replacing. The floor ducts have asbestos containing material formers, so it’s planned that the pipework in the floor ducts be abandoned rather than remove the asbestos containing materials. The contractor shall make due allowance for the isolation, drain down, strip out and removal from site of all pipework serving Block A with the exception of pipework located within the floor ducts. NOTE: The contractor shall make due allowance to fully trace the heating pipework serving rooms A8, A7, A5 & A083a. These rooms didn’t cool as anticipated when the existing A block circulation pumps were turned off. The contractor shall communicate findings of further investigation to Davies Partnership. The contractor shall supply, install and commission a VT LTHW heating system to serve new emitters in A Block. This shall consist of new connections to the flow and return headers with new pumps, 3 port blending valve etc. as indicated on the drawings. Pipework shall be routed along a short section of duct in the boiler room prior to rising to ground floor level above. Pipework shall then be distributed above ground to emitters throughout A block.
