Abstract

The South East Wales Rivers Trust are seeking contractors who will construct a fish pass facility at the Library Weir, Aberdare with the aim of providing access for migratory fish (salmon, trout, eels) along the River Dare. The fish pass will comprise of two reinforced concrete pre-baffles, and associated structures, situated in the river channel downstream of an existing weir (NGR SN 99926 02578). Modifications to the existing weir, through the creation of a notch, will also be required. The work will involve operating in the river channel and thus require diversion of flows whilst construction work is taking place. The work will be undertaken in accordance with the construction drawings already produced by the Trust and approved by NRW.

Description of the goods or services required

Additional Information

At this stage the Trust is seeking expressions of interest from prospective contractors.

Whilst we have obtained design approval from the National Fish Pass Expert Group (EA/NRW) we are still awaiting formal planning permission which it is hoped will be received imminently.

We will be seeking contractors with experience of working in river channels and aware of associated health, safety and environmental risks in such situations.
