Abstract

Many NHS organisations and staff have recognised the opportunity innovation represents and aspire to capitalise on their work by securing Intellectual Property Rights, creating value, promoting innovation, and generating an income for the NHS to fund further innovation and services. NHS providers are currently missing these opportunities. In contrast, private sector is capitalising with little or no re-investment directly back into health. Health Boards and Trusts in Wales have expressed the need, in line with the core functions of universities, to explore opportunities to generate an income from a range of products and services that can fund or support increased research, improvement, innovation and value activity. Health Boards and Trusts in Wales each have expressed the need for revisiting their IP Policy and support for harmonising IP Policies across Wales. This procurement supports both those needs.
