Abstract

Climate change is the greatest challenge currently facing humanity, and has precipitated immense interest in sequestering carbon, the price of which has doubled in the last twelve months. However, this created new problems for Wales, with international corporations buying up Welsh farms, which has fragmented communities and failed to plant the right trees in the right places. We therefore are commissioning research into the development of a local, community-driven solution based on our previous work and successful counterparts such as Stump Up For Trees.

Minimum standards and qualification required

3.1 We will need a qualified individual, organisation, or consortium to present a two-part report. The first part should describe the results of the following elements:

• Identification and description of barriers and conflicts.

• Desk research and discussions with the Stump Up For Trees’ team. They have indicated a willingness to cooperate and provide the information required. The appointed consultant would be expected to capture this information and identify what is relevant and could be used (with some adaption) in our region.

• Stakeholder engagement and workshops to determine their needs and barriers, as well as aspirations and contribution to the model. All stakeholders previously mentioned should be involved, with a view to scoping their input into the model.

• Discussions with other Menter Môn teams to ensure collaboration between the teams in any possible model plan.

3.2 The second part of the report will need to develop an economic model that proposes solutions with an integrated strategy:

• All elements mentioned in 3.1 will need to be considered when developing the model.

• Glastir economics should be used to develop the model, similarly to how SUFT have developed their model.
