Core Valley Lines - Rhiwbina Station Platform Sub-Structure

Description of the goods or services required

The Rhiwbina Station Platform Sub-Structure is located at CRY 1m 78ch, OS Map Reference ST 158809.

Rhiwbina Station Platform Sub-Structure is a single platform station with a single track. The platform construction includes precast reinforced concrete units for 34 No. bays. Access is achieved from the Eastern end (L/M) via an access ramp. A waiting area comprises 3 No. bays adjacent to bay No. 6, 7 and 8 from L/M end and is located to the D/S of the platform.

The platform articulation includes two precast reinforced concrete slabs per bay. The slabs are in-turn supported by reinforced concrete portal frames on combined footings. The portal frames are braced by h-shaped reinforced concrete cross members at either end of the portal frames. The waiting area deck slab comprises transverse filler beams supported on 3 pairs of longitudinal steel beams (rails). Longitudinal beams are supported on vertical supports.

A condition assessment report identified spalling with exposed corroded reinforcement, fractures with rust staining and significant section loss to fixings.

The works comprise of;

The repair of defects in sub-structure and slabs,

Installation of debris screens, and

Platform surfacing and strengthening.

AIW seek to procure a Build only Subcontractor under and NEC4 Option A Contract to undertake the repair works
