The site is located in Shawfield near Rutherglen and is within land administered by both South Lanarkshire Council and Glasgow City Council. The site is bounded to the south by the M74, to the north by the River Clyde, to the northwest by the B763 / A630 (East End Regeneration Route), and to the east by the Dalmarnock to Rutherglen stretch of the Argyle line railway.

The contract opportunity entails the diversion of the Mallsmire / Polmadie and West Burns at Shawfield, Glasgow.

The aim of these diversion works is to remove pathways for contamination entering the culverts and migrating into the water environment and also to maximise potential development space.

The culvert diversion works comprise of two specific components, namely diversion of the West Burn culvert and lining of the Polmadie Burn culvert.
