Short description of the contract or purchase(s)
Achieving for Children (AfC) has been providing Childrens’ Services for The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) since August 2017. AfC is now seek to strengthen and improve outcomes for vulnerable children and young people through finding a suitable provider to manage the Alternative Provision in its entirety, with AfC retaining management oversight and scrutiny. The aim will be to narrow the achievement gap for those young people who are at risk of not achieving as a result of being permanently excluded from school or unable to attend school as a result of significant medical needs. The provider will enable a swift and well-managed response to provide our most vulnerable children and young people with a meaningful and positive education experience. High quality alternative provision aims to keep young people in learning and achieving, so that they can make a positive contribution to society.
The main objective of the new service will be to provide full-time equivalent education for, all permanently excluded pupils living in RBWM from the sixth day and short-term interventions for pupils living in RBWM who are unable to attend mainstream school as a result of a significant medical condition (with appropriate medical evidence).
RBWM wishes to further improve the quality assurance and monitoring arrangements for the provision of alternative education, provide a suitable platform to ensure value for money, reduce the current reactive approach, by ensuring a proactive, timely and appropriate education placement is available to all pupils who are permanently excluded or unable to attend school for medical needs.
