II.2.4) Description of the procurement
South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust has awarded a contract for the supply and delivery of portable POCT blood gas and chemistry analysers including the supply of reagents and consumables to Abbott Laboratories Ltd. The goods could previously be provided only by Abbott Laboratories Ltd due to the clinical requirement of testing for urea in addition to multiple other analytes identified by South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust. However, recently another provider has entered the market and can also now provide the blood chemistry test for urea. The South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust anticipate the maximum duration of the contract will be for 12 months to allow for a public procurement exercise to tender for the supply and delivery of portable POCT blood gas and chemistry analysers including the supply of reagents and consumables.

Additional deliveries by the original supplier ordered under the strict conditions stated in the Directive
Explanation
In compliance with Paragraph 32(5)(b) of the Public Contract Regulations 2015, the Contracting Authority requires additional deliveries by the original supplier, Abbott Laboratories Ltd, which are intended as the extension of existing supplies where a change of supplier would oblige the contracting authority to acquire supplies having different technical characteristics which would result in incompatibility in operation and maintenance. These deliveries are required for the period until publically tendered within 12 months of award of this contract.
