Abstract

The purpose of this project will be to identify recycling opportunities for end of life fishing gear from the Welsh fleet and to set-up a pilot waste scheme at selected ports in Wales which will run until 31/03/2022. The supplier will be expected to identify waste streams within Wales with future potential for disposal and recycling of fishing gear, if not already available. However, if there are preferred options to recycle the fishing gear outside of Wales, these will also be considered. Key objectives of this project are: • Identify key fishing gear types used by Welsh fishing vessels with the potential to be recycled. • Identify suitable ports in Wales which could support the pilot. • Purchase and install waste collection facilities at those ports and identify innovative ways of recycling including the potential to recycle within Wales or beyond. Consideration will need to be given to items purchased as part of a proposal and their legacy beyond this contract. • Develop bilingual messaging, leaflets and/or posters. • Produce a bilingual report which evaluates the effectiveness of the pilot scheme.
