Abstract

Framework to provide lifesaving first aid is a critical part of the role of police officers and police staff.

Police force staff are often the first responder to a medical emergency and are required to administer first aid in situations where medical care from a recognised healthcare provider may not be available for some time, or where such healthcare providers may not be able to access the casualty. Police force staff are also frequently required to administer first aid in extreme and challenging environments.

It is vitally important that the first aid training provider ensures all police officers and staff are competent and confident in their roles and abilities, when providing medical support and care, and are able to robustly defend both their decisions and any interventions.
