Abstract

Hywel Dda Health Board ("HDUHB") has awarded a contract for the provision of a VMware Cloud Foundation Licence Renewal across the Health Board. This contract renewal is essential as VMware is the software licence utilised by the Digital Services team to run all Health Board clinical and administrative computer systems. The software facilitates the virtualisation of over 85% of clinical and administrative application servers hosted within the Health Board which means the Digital team are able to run a greater number of servers on much less physical hardware to minimise the physical space and power consumed, therefore limiting costs and emissions output for HDUHB. The requirement is pivotal for the Health Board, as without clinical and administrative services would have to shut down due to insufficient server capacity, dramatically impacting the provision of services and ultimately the Health Boards reputation and service quality. The National Procurement Service (NPS) IT Products and Services (ii) framework agreement (NPS-ICT-0094-19) is compliant with UK/EU procurement legislation and provides a compliant route to source software, licencing and cloud services/products including open source or off the shelf, along with associated services, such as design, integration, asset management and training. This framework includes several potential providers who have achieved inclusion on the framework following a qualification process and procurement approached a supplier with links to the Welsh economy.
