Description of the goods or services required
Construction Works at Welsh Wildlife CentreThe Visitor Centre was built in 1993 and won an award for innovative design back in 1995, but its current infrastructure, though offering glorious views, is far less picturesque. Our buildings have degraded over time, preventing them from meeting their primary functions. As a result, costs are increasing, and income is declining, reducing funds for meeting our conservation objectives and reducing our ability to reach and engage with new audiences. This project is an opportunity to improve the functionality of the buildings, services, and infrastructure through capital investment. This will include access to the buildings, orientation of visitors around the site, work to fix degrading infrastructure and faulty services, and upgrades to ancillary buildings to improve their function. Through these capital works and investment in our EDI (Equality, Diversity, Inclusivity) work, this project will build on our good reputation and past successes and allow us to meet new opportunities (EDI) and challenges (climate change) of the future The proposals include interior changes and an extension to the Visitor Centre to make it more unified, accessible, efficient, and comfortable for visitors and staff, alongside improvements to the building’s environmental performance. In addition, the Bunk House will be fully refurbished and converted from basic bunkbed accommodation into a more comfortable, self-contained holiday cottage with an internal staircase and improved insulation, creating a more desirable, sustainable, and profitable rental space.Description of the Works and Required Trades* Installation of an enclosed platform lift and new external stair access* Reconfiguration and resurfacing of the delivery/turning area and accessible parking bays* Construction of a new accessible footpath link* Like for like replacement of the first floor pedestrian footbridge (oak, glulam & galv metal)* Installation of a Brise Soleil shading system to south and west elevations* Creation of a new plant enclosure to house air source heat pumps* Refurbishment of an existing derelict bunkhouse to bring back into beneficial use as on-site self catered accomodation* Improvements to drainage and site services* Upgrade to the commercial kitchen and servery* Associated groundworks, hard landscaping and minor demolitionThe project will require, but is not limited to, the following trades: groundworks, civils, concrete works, steelwork, timber construction, roofing, cladding, M&E (including ASHP installation), joinery, masonry, surfacing, landscaping, access works, and specialist environmental contractors (ecology related supervision and mitigation)
