Abstract

Provision of an equipment sterilisation service to two hospital sites. The duration of the contract is proposed as 7 years, however, the Trust invites proposals on contract length which may reflect optimal capital depreciation on the part of the Bidder. The value of the contract is estimated at GBP 17m.

Short description of the contract or purchase(s)

Barking, Havering and Redbridge Hospitals NHS Trust requires the provision of a modern and efficient sterilisation and decontamination service which achieves the national policy for compliance with all of the latest and future quality and legislative standards, at a competitive and cost effective price, enabling the Trust to service their current and planned/unplanned growth requirements in a timely manner. The Supplier must ensure that there is a system in place that ensures as far as reasonably practicable that all reusable medical devices are properly decontaminated prior to use and that the risks associated with decontamination facilities and processes are adequately managed. The Service Partner is required to repair and maintain all surgical equipment and equipment processed under this contract and to document the costs involved in this.

The current provider manages and provides their own transport staff and fleet for collection and delivery to the sites. The service proposal should include, as an option, collection and delivery to the end-user wards and departments by safe and secure means in accordance with agreed delivery schedules.

Currently the Trust provides an internal building and equipment in premises at King George Hospital, Goodmayes, Essex, IG3 8YB which is leased to the third-party supplier who operates the service. The Trusts nominated maintenance service provider currently provides the maintenance to the Sterile Services Department (SSD). Proposals are invited to provide this service using the current model or provide a service based on own premises and equipment..

Administration and clerical support will include an acceptable and proven full tracking and traceability system consistent with the requirements of all current and future decontamination standards and legislation
