SONI has the responsibility as the transmission system operator (TSO) under its license to plan the network and develop the transmission network to complete all the relevant activities (‘pre-construction’) to enable Northern Ireland Electricity, the transmission asset owner (TAO), to complete the construction and connection to the grid.
These pre-construction activities include:
Project feasibility studies;
Preliminary design, route and site selection;
Site survey;
Project management;
High voltage electrical engineering, civil / structural / mechanical engineering;
Environmental impact assessments;
Preparation of planning applications;
Detailed design and construction drawings;
Management of planning process;
Landowner engagement and consent;
Public and stakeholder consultation management; and
Project communications.
