Abstract

The Penllergare Trust was formed in 2000 to protect and conserve an important picturesque woodland in Swansea whilst engaging local people in its care. We play an advocacy role for its wildlife and have implemented many biodiversity projects. Incorporating the top four rarest habitats in the Swansea region we play host to otters, badger, kingfishers, salmon, and a wide variety of rare trees and plants. Many brought from across the world when the estate was in its heyday in the mid 1800s. Conserving its historic features, we currently have National Lottery Heritage Funding for a visitors centre and the restoration of a walled garden. This will provide sustainable income for us to be non-grant reliant. We have over 120 regular volunteers, won the Queens Award for Voluntary Services (MBE equivalent) as well as a whole catalogue of awards and commendations. The Trust is based around three foundation pillars of Community, Biodiversity, and History. Our fantastic volunteers are from wide-ranging demographics from across Swansea, many from the Penderry ward, one of the most deprived in wales which adjoins our site. Important to local communities for many generations, Penllergare has developed sound relationships with many community partners. When the Trust began work the area was rife with anti-social behaviour. There were 70 burnt out cards in the river alone. Now the site is seen as safe for lone walking, running and family activities. A vital community facility and nature reserve The Penllergare Trust is embarking on a walled garden restoration including the installation of a vinery, hard and soft landscaping utilising contract and volunteer labour. We require a Clerk of Works / Contractor Liaison role to represent the Trust in the delivery of the project. The Duration of the initial contract will be for approximately 6 months. The actual days delivered by the successful applicant will not be specified at this stage but will be discussed and agreed after the tender process. The tender pricing therefore is for a day rate for the services required. We invite tenders from professionally affiliated bodies such as The Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate or ICWC

Description of the goods or services required

A vital community facility and nature reserve

The Penllergare Trust is embarking on a walled garden restoration including the installation of a vinery, hard and soft landscaping utilising contract and volunteer labour.
