The Met Office own and operate two satellite data reception systems at the Met Office HQ in Exeter. A project is underway to upgrade these systems in readiness for the launch of a new generation of polar orbiting satellites. The systems comprise of an antenna attached to a pedestal.
Each system is attached to a plate, located at the top of a metal lattice tower. Access to the equipment is currently via a vertical ladder. Consequently, only trained climbers can access the towers to maintain or repair the equipment.
