Abstract

As part of the works associated with the Glenglass GIS project, a further extension of the existing Glenglass substation compound is required to accommodate the new indoor 132kV Bay Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) and the associated electrical plant.

The civils scope of works includes demolition and site clearance, earthworks, in-situ concrete and concrete ancillaries, pre-cast concrete, and roads and pavings. This involves the removal and disposal of surplus materials, redundant electro-mechanical plants, foundations, structures, and security fences. Excavations will be backfilled with engineered granular material, and the substation surface will be dressed with stone chippings. Concrete foundations, floor slabs, pre-cast concrete cable troughs, and kerbs will be constructed. New internal substation access roads and temporary access to working areas will be formed and maintained, with reinstatement to the original condition upon completion.

The building scope of works includes the fabrication and erection of a steel portal frame for the GIS building, along with the design of all steel-to-steel connections. The GIS building is a single storey portal frame structure with a duo-pitch roof, and a lean-to arrangement consisting of another single span portal. The dimensions of the GIS building are 25.5m x 19.4m and will encompass 9 bays - 8 feeder circuit bays and a bus coupler (2 bays for Glenmuckloch, 2 bays for Blackhill, 2 bays for 33kV connections (Sanquhar 1, Whiteside Hill, Twenty Shilling), 1 bay for Sandy Knowe, 1 bay for Sanquhar II and a Bus Coupler).

The scope also involves the detailed design, supply, and installation of the cladding system, including purlins, side rails, and anti-sag provisions. Coatings of various steelworks as per the specification is also covered. Additionally, the scope includes painting switchroom and other concrete floors with industrial-grade, anti-slip floor paint, providing finishes to doors, shutters, removable panels, and installing fittings and locks/keys as per SPEN requirements. Finally, it involves the supply and installation of mess room and toilet fittings.
