The service is designed to review the prescribing to patients in primary care in the following three areas
Best prescribing practice and safety
Prescribing in line with best practice (those measured by AWTTC national prescribing indicators)
Evidenced based clinical pathway
Review of safety alerts submission of data and implementation of clinical guidelines
Cost effectiveness and Efficiency
Implementing strategically significant primary care efficiency programmes.
The service requires that there be a movement toward targets for prescribing via patient reviews, education and clinical audit.

As part of the review all basic and key criteria were included with a pass/ fail weighting for basic and when 3 out of 5 key criteria being met one of which must be quality then the contract was deemed able to be awarded. This provider met all criteria.
