Short Description
Barnsley College is looking to build a new 6th Form to further develop its offering for its learners. The new building will consolidate the College's existing 6th Form offering and will have close links with other college facilities. This proposal is related to the implementation of the College's wider property strategy which has seen the development of a number of projects.
The key characteristics required of the design of the 6th Form to meet the overall College's brief are:
— A visionary, Iconic landmark building;
— The college 6th form curriculum is to have an impressive and cohesive identity within the site, making use of its position to advertise its presence and its offer to the community.
— The building will be high quality, interesting and dynamic providing a valuable addition to the College's estate whilst emphasising the presence of the College locally.
— It will retain and attract an on-going student cohort.
— The design seeks to use materials which provide good life cycle costing and relatively low in maintenance;
— Make the most of the south facing elevation for external space onto shambles st;
— Pull the public realm together to include routes through the proposed site to link in Shambles St and Westgate plazal;
— A design led yet functional building that maximises internal & external space.
