Mission Gallery – Tender for Development Phase and Subsequent Phases for Architectural and Associated Design Services

Mission Gallery invites tenders for the architectural and associated design services for Phase 1 (RIBA Stage D) of the redevelopment of Mission Gallery, Swansea. This tender to also include Phase 2 (RIBA Stages E – L). Only RIBA Stage D is funded at the moment.

A Feasibility Study for the development of Mission Gallery was carried out by a design team led by Clash Associates. Clash Associates are eligible to tender. The tender is necessary because of the procurement guidelines of the funding partners. Mission Gallery is seeking a design team that has considerable understanding of the site and will be able to develop the findings of the Feasibility Study. The tender will be decided on the basis of price and quality with 80% of the decision based on quality.

The tender needs to identify a lead consultant, and all the other members of the design team. The building budget is identified in the Feasibility Study as £823,726 and the tender for the fees for the designs to the equivalent of RIBA Stage D and for RIBA Stages E- L should reflect that Mission Gallery is a Grade 11 listed building with a proposed contemporary extension. Funding has been secured for Phase 1 (RIBA Stage D) through a partnership between Arts Council of Wales lottery, City and County of Swansea and Mission Gallery. The tender for the full design services to the equivalent of RIBA Stage D should be for a fixed fee. The subsequent stages can be shown as a percentage.

The successful team will be contracted to undertake the work to RIBA Stage D, and the contract will enable the team to continue to the next stages of the design without the need for a further tender, providing the project has sufficient funding to proceed beyond RIBA Stage D
