Abstract

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) harvests approximately 770,000 m3 over bark standing (obs) of timber from Welsh Assembly woodlands each year. Of this, 330,000 m3 is harvested by Direct Production (DP) i.e. NRW commissions the harvesting to roadside with their own harvesting machines or engages contractors to carry out the work. The remaining 440,000 m3 is sold as Standing Sales. We will be awarding a framework agreement for the supply of direct production harvesting to roadside and safe stacking of the cut timber across Wales throughout the 4 year period of the framework, in order to match our timber supply chain commitments to the Welsh sawmilling and processing industry. The call-off contracts arising from this framework will consist of harvester/forwarder, skidder and skyline work and will be a mixture of short-term and medium-term contracts.

2.2 Description of the contract
