Abstract
Nutrition Skills for Life™ aims to support communities to access a healthy balanced diet. Registered dietitians, working in all seven NHS health boards in Wales, provide accredited nutrition training for the health, social care and third sector workforce. A main objective of the programme is to support community workers who complete Level 2 Community Food and Nutrition Skills training, and gain accreditation, to deliver Level 1 accredited courses such as Get Cooking /Dechrau Coginio, Come and Cook/Dewch I Goginio, Nutrition Skills, Foodwise for Life and Foodwise in Pregnancy courses. By training community workers, volunteers and peer leaders who work closely with, and understand the needs of local people, the service supports communities across Wales to learn more about healthy eating and put knowledge and skills into practice. With physical distancing requirements likely to continue for some time due to COVID-19, we need to support our community facilitators to transform from traditional face –to face to virtual face-to-face delivery to continue to reach communities to support healthy eating. Digital delivery also aims to widen access for people in rural Wales. We require immediate development of high quality, engaging learning and teaching resources to enhance real time virtual face-to-face training. This will ensure we can deliver on existing commitments to partner projects, to meet programme objectives and to ensure communities stand to gain from the best possible support to meet their needs during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
