Installation of a new wheel lathe facility at Clacton-on-Sea railway depot and the design and construction of ancillary infrastructure including: building works; track modification; OLE isolation; DNO supply; drainage works; welfare facilities; shunter charging facilities; access road; vehicle turning apron; depot protection and control systems; driver's walkways; lighting; forklift shelter and charging point; bin stone are swarf skip; fencing and access gates; access control and CCTV; and GRP assess platforms.

II.2.4) Description of the procurement
Greater Anglia require a new wheel lathe facility to service their train fleet of Stadler 12 car (class 745) EMUs, Stadler 3 and 4 car (Class 755) Bi-mode units and Alstom 5 car (Class 720) EMUs.
The wheel lathe is to be situated in the Clacton-on-Sea railway depot on the land once occupied by the old Clacton Steam Shed and the unused approach road area from the existing shunting spur.
A new permanent way for the wheel lathe and S&C is to be built from the shunting spur the wheel lathe building to new buffer stops. The permanent way is to be of sufficient length to accommodate a 236.6m unit plus the electric shunting mule beyond the start of the calibrated track within the wheel lathe building.
The new facility is to include additional welfare facilities.
The proposed location of the wheel lathe will clash with existing Network Rail assets which will need to be re-located.
The contract is for the GRIP 5 - 8 works for this new facility.
