II.2.4) Description of the procurement
Dorset HealthCare University Foundation NHS Trust (DHC) is a community and mental health Trust and is the Commissioner of this Service (the Authority).
The aim of this service is for the Contractor to provide pharmacy supply services, in accordance with all requirements set out within the Service Specification, to DHC inpatient and outpatient units, (excluding Bournemouth and Poole).
The services specified are to be provided in a wide range of settings and locations across the breadth of Dorset, including:
Mental health units, from adolescent to old age and including substance misuse services;
Community hospitals, offering various service arrangements, some include surgical theatres; some have minor injury units, outpatient departments, day hospitals, etc.;
Wide ranging community based health services, such as contraceptive and sexual health clinics, district nurses, school nurses, assertive outreach teams, community based clozapine clinics and depot clinics, etc.
The diversity of the service is such that the DHC requires the provision of a responsive and flexible service for the supply of pharmaceuticals and associated items.
Clinical ward services will be provided by an in-house team of clinical pharmacists and medicines management technicians employed directly by DHC and managed by the Chief Pharmacist, DHC. This team will work in close liaison with the Contractor of pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical supplies; and the Contractor will be expected to co-operate with this team.
The Trust has an in-house supply service for Bournemouth and Poole, which has a mental health focus, and will lead on clozapine supply and management and will be responsible for all supplies in Bournemouth and Poole. The contractor will manage clozapine for inpatients and outpatients that are not based in Bournemouth and Poole, excluding patients that are managed in ‘one stop’ clinics (near patient blood testing and supply).
