Minesto is developing a 500kW tidal power plant in form of a “flying” kite tethered to the sea floor. Please visit the website www.minesto.com for more information.

The contract is for fabrication and delivery of composite struts to the Minesto DG500 Kite. The two struts shall connect the wing to the top joint, and transfer the majority of the tether load.

The scope is for 2 main struts and option for spare units.

We show them below: Buoyancy Section 3 of the Technical Specification calls for neutral buoyancy, however it also allows provision for the trailing edge to be foam filled. This would result in a significant increase in buoyancy (circa 1kN). • How critical is the in-water weight of the completed assembly? Answer: We need to know the in-water weight quite good to balance the complete power plant. When final geometry has been agreed a weight target should also be agreed with a +- tolerance. • Is positive buoyancy desirable or should the assembly be neutrally buoyant? Answer: yes positive buoyancy is desirable. Entrained mass The volume of enclosed water contributing to the entrained mass would be significantly reduced by the addition of foam core to the trailing edge fairing. • How critical is the entrained mass of the completed assembly? Answer: Entrained mass (added mass ) is included in our fluid dynamics simulation of the kite performance. However, it shall not be considered by you. It is sufficient for you to consider dry weight and the weight of the submerged volume. Verification Design and fabrication in accordance with DNV standards is called for, however there is no mention of verification. • Will third party verification of either the design or manufacture be required? Answer: Not for supplier of struts but DNV is assessing Minestos design and some of the documents that the supplier should provide i.e. manufacturing procedure will be shared with DNV. Hence, DNVGL will review the Minesto strut analysis reports. However your fabrication documents, and material certificates may be relevant for info.

13/03/2017 10:46	Deadline information Minesto has got the information from WEFO that the procurement process cant allow any delayed tenders. Unfortunately we did get 1 that was delayed and needed to be rejected. We dont know who this is so thats why you all get this notice!
