Abstract

Provision of an Ambulance Vehicle Preparation Service YAS 03 2017.

AVP is the process by which Authority vehicles are prepared for use and made ready for response when required by the Authority.

The AVP concept has been used in various industries and countries across the world. It is important to note that the AVP concept, when applied to the Authority, shall take best practice from other services, but also be bespoke to the needs of the ambulance service.

The cleanliness of healthcare premises, vehicles and reusable medical devices is an important component in the provision of clean, infection-free, safe care for patients. The NHS Constitution clearly sets out that patients have a right to be treated in an organisation that meets the required levels of safety and quality as outlined within the Health Care Act 2010.

Outputs and Outcomes

The AVP service requires meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that operational vehicles are clean and fully equipped with medical devices and equipment, consumable items, and medicines. This is a high performance service delivery model for the ambulance sector and encompasses cleaning, stocking, asset control, movement of vehicles, and moving forward potentially, medicines management, minor repairs, logistical movements etc. Decisions by the Authority shall be made on future requirements.
