Abstract

The Coleg wishes to appoint a provider to develop a bilingual general language awareness educational resource pack for apprentices. The pack will enable apprentices to complete parts of their qualification through the medium of Welsh, reaching category B3 in the learning record . In doing so, the pack will contribute towards meeting the need for bilingual workers across various sectors and geographic areas. The main audience for the pack will be apprentices with a relatively low level of skills in Welsh or with no Welsh language skills, so the content should be created on the basis of this requirement. THE PACK’S CONTENTS The resource pack will include learning materials that will: - Introduce the Welsh language and its importance in the workplace - Place a specific focus on introducing phrases for customer services and introducing them for various vocational pathways. - Build up the apprentice’s confidence to be able to use simple phrases with customers and clients and demonstrate this in the workplace. - Deliver language awareness and introduce various aspects of Welsh language life and Welsh culture. - Set tasks and activities related to the contents to test the apprentice’s language understanding, including a cross-section of skills such as comprehension, listening, writing. - Set tasks and activities that draw the employer themselves into the conversation about the Welsh language between the apprentice and the employer. - Encourage the apprentice to use other resources to improve their Welsh language learning/Welsh language skills e.g. using Cysgliad to complete an activity. - The pack will also include training materials for tutors. REQUIREMENTS The specific requirements for the work are as follows: - A bilingual general resource pack that enables an apprentice in any field to reach B3, i.e. some study of Welsh-medium provision - Pack to include learning materials as noted above. - A bilingual pack that uses Cymraeg Clir [Clear Welsh] that is appropriate for Levels 1, 2 and 3. - A self-directing pack to be delivered with the aid of a tutor. - The pack to be provided in two formats: i. A comprehensive online multimedia pack that includes video and/or audio files, interactive tasks and tests to measure learner understanding and test their skills. ii.A print version of the pack, to include links to the online material, and where possible, alternative activities to replace the activities that can only be completed online. - For the online version of the pack, a hosting plan should be provided. It should be possible to host the resource in a place/in places that are accessible to as many apprentices as possible, e.g. by providing it in SCORM format. Apprentice providers should be consulted on the most appropriate method of hosting, and the Coleg Cymraeg’s agreement on the hosting arrangements will be required before proceeding. - For the pack’s print version, a plan should be provided for printing and distributing the print copies. - Experts within the apprenticeship sector should be consulted to ensure that the resources meet the requirements. - Duplication should be avoided by researching any existing relevant materials (e.g. those produced by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol, the National Centre for Learning Welsh, and those hosted on adnoddau.cymru) and re-using them where possible. Where necessary, the rights to use any other such resources as part of the pack should be secured. - The original work should be able to be licensed under a CC BY-SA 4.0 licence. For full details please refer to the attached Specification under the Additional Documents tab.
