Abstract

AgorIP is currently assisting on the creation of an app called PAUSEBeat (PB), which is an app, combined with hardware (a wearable heart rate monitor and headphones). If a child is overwhelmed in class, PB guides him or her through a number of exercises that have been shown to reduce a person’s heart rate. Research has shown that slowing someone’s heart rate is an effective way of also reducing overwhelming negative emotions such as anger or fear. A child can therefore use PB to quickly calm him/herself without needing to leave the classroom, then quickly re-engage with their lesson once they return to a calm state. You must ensure that you provide responses to the attached Questions document with your quotation submission.

The current Prototyping work

The current prototyping work covers the design, development and delivery of the PAUSEBeat app native to both iOS and Android, as well as an admin/reporting back-end.

- The Front-End

Native apps for Android and iOS. The content will be dynamically loaded from the API. In order to use the app, the tablets must be connected to the internet.

When the application is started, it will connect with the heart rate monitor. Based on the heart rate animations will be shown on the splash screen.

It is anticipated that 4 animations will be created for the app which will be displayed during start up while using the application. The Animated character will:

- Pace around

- Sit down

- Yawn

- Lie down and sleep

Every 5 seconds, the app will send the heart rate and current activity to the API. This information will be used to optimise activities/content and can then be shared with the schools.

The application should work with limited functionality in case there is no Bluetooth device/connection available.

The features to be implemented into the app include:

- Mandala Colouring

- Yoga Nidra Relaxation

- Biofeedback Enhanced Music

- Labyrinth Finger Tracing

- Story Telling Videos

- Nature Videos, Sounds and Sights from Nature

- Breath Control Videos/ Animations

- The Back-End

The Back-End login will be used by GwylanUK and School admins only and the following functionality will be available:

- GwylanUK Dashboard

- GwylanUK Activity Report

- GwylanUK School Overview

- GwylanUK Configuration Tab

Specification of work for this tender

A prototype of PB is currently in development, as above, and it will be trialled at several schools across Wales. Once the prototype is completed, a piece of work will be required to refine the prototype and develop it into a market-ready product. AgorIP is looking for a supplier to undertake the following work:

- Using the results and user feedback from the trial, to identify which elements of the PB prototype need refining, adding to, amending or removing. This includes:

o The usability of the software – including elements such as the ‘look’ of the app, and how the user interacts with and uses the app.

o The music, sounds and illustrations that will be used in the prototype.

o The specific exercises/games contained in the app and their refinement.

The chosen supplier should have expertise in software / app development (including Android, iPhone and Amazon Web service interface). They should also have (or have access to third parties with) expertise in composing biofeedback-enhanced music and 2D illustration.

The prototype-refining work, for this RFQ, is anticipated to take 3-6 months during early/mid 2021.

The budget for this work should fall within £7,460.00 including VAT.
