Abstract

WCVA, its county voluntary council colleagues and other infrastructure organisations are committed to supporting voluntary organisations in Wales to increase their resilience and sustainability. It is recognised that one of the key contributing factors to resilience and sustainability is a diverse mix of income streams. We currently have limited information about what income streams charities and voluntary organisations in Wales have and utilise. Existing data from the Third Sector Data Hub is out of date and limited to data available on the Charity Commission register of charities. However, of Wales’ estimated 32,000 voluntary organisations, only roughly a quarter of those are registered and therefore represented on the Commission’s register. WCVA is therefore commissioning this research piece to gain a representative picture of the types and levels of different income streams being utilised by voluntary organisations in Wales. Further details concerning WCVA’s requirements are contained in Annex 2.

Description of the goods or services required

Total quantity or scope of tender

Scope

WCVA is commissioning this initial piece as a one-off exercise, part of which will be testing the plausibility of running such a research piece and achieving the breadth of information desired. If successful, WCVA will look to fund and repeat this work on a more ongoing basis.

We would like to see data on income streams both before the pandemic, and information (perhaps including qualitative narrative where appropriate) on the impact of Covid-19 restrictions on income streams and organisation’s expectations of which income streams will recover and how.

Outputs

1. A full report, outlining the findings and trends in the income streams of voluntary organisations in Wales (to include appropriate diagrams for illustration).

2. The raw data that informed the report, that then can be used to update the Third Sector Data Hub.
