Royce at the University of Sheffield is part of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and partner to the Henry Royce Institute for Advanced Materials (with the main Hub in Manchester) which aims to grow the UK world-leading research and innovation base in advanced materials science, fundamental to all industrial sectors and the national economy. Royce at the University of Sheffield focuses on Advanced Materials Processing
and operates mainly through the Royce Discovery Centre (RDC) and the Royce Translational Centre (RTC). Our state of the art facilities allow materials discovery, materials manufacturing and prototype production and will act as an open access centre of excellence for the UK.
With funding from EPSRC we seek to purchase a hybrid-hot press/SPS for the consolidation of various powdery raw materials by combined uniaxial pressing force and heating in vacuum or inert atmosphere. Typical material types to be processed in the SPS include ceramics, metals, hard alloys, nanomaterials, functionally graded materials etc.
