II.1.4) Short description
UK Power Networks, UK's largest distribution network operator, is UK leader in integrating distributed energy resources (DERs) using innovative solutions. UK Power Networks is transforming its business into a distribution system operator so that customer needs are met, reliability is maintained and decarbonisation of the electricity system is delivered at the least cost.
This notice refers to the procurement for a key enablers called Active Network Management (ANM) that acts as an intelligent centralised software application, capable of integrating and managing the DERs and the evolving smart grid technologies at all voltage levels.

II.2.4) Description of the procurement
Key functions of the ANM include the management flexible connections for DER and the management of demand side response services. This involves real-time control of DER including DG but also emerging functions such as management of energy storage, demand response, electrical vehicle charging infrastructures and controllable network assets. The ANM will be required to optimise multiple parameters including commercial parameters such as real-pricing of flexible resources.
The ANM will need to coordinate with various internal and external systems including the Electricity System Operator to manage conflicts and enable the whole system optimisation.
Key Requirements:
The technology must already be proven to Technology Readiness Level 8 or 9.
UKPN requires a working solution by Q3 2018.
The solution must comply with all relevant industry standards (For e.g IEC standards).
Bidders must be able to provide physical presence of relevant technical teams at UKPN premises during the design and delivery phase.
Further technical requirements and details will be articulated in the tender.
