II.2.4) Description of the procurement
Electric vehicles (EVs) have a key role in decarbonising the transport sector in Wales and their uptake needs to be supported through adequate provision of charging infrastructure. Transport for Wales (TfW) are working on behalf of Welsh Government to develop a rapid EV charging infrastructure across the strategic road network to facilitate long distance travel throughout Wales. As such, TfW are in the process of engaging with public and private sector partners to scope the potential delivery of a coordinated, strategic approach.
During 2020 TfW will be inviting commercial charge point operators to exchange views on how delivery of a network of electric vehicle charge points across Wales could potentially be achieved. TfW will lead this delivery which may be through ownership and management or a concession model. TfW is particularly keen to explore solutions which result in no on-going revenue liabilities to the Authority. TfW would like to understand how limited capital funding can facilitate the commercialisation of less profitable sites to fulfil the primary objectives.
TfW invites you to a market engagement workshop to discuss plans for EV charging infrastructure and to provide further information on Welsh Government’s intended approach. The aim of this workshop is to promote collaboration in planning for EV charging infrastructure for Wales and to explore the potential challenges and opportunities for EV charging in partnership between the public and private sector.
The workshop will be held at Arup offices in Cardiff on Tuesday 21st January. Please find the address below.
