Abstract
Degree Apprenticeships are a new type of apprenticeship, which combine the workplace learning of a traditional apprenticeship with a higher education qualification. They can also include professional qualifications relevant to the industry. The apprenticeships run for the duration of the degree course with apprentices spending around 20% of their time at university and the rest with their employer. In Wales, a Degree Apprenticeship will be a minimum of three years and usually up to a maximum of five years in length.
The overall aim of this contract is to conduct an evaluation of the pilot for the programme. The contractors appointed for this work will conduct a formative evaluation of the initial phase of the programme to assess its effectiveness, efficiency and impact. Given that the programme is new, the focus of the evaluation will be on employers, apprentices and HEIs, their motivations and views of the programme, rather than on current inputs and outputs. A key part of the evaluation will be to develop an evaluation framework that can be used in the future to make impact and value for money judgements. The evaluation findings will be used to inform future programme development.
