Abstract

Wales Millennium Centre is looking to appoint an architectural practice or suitably qualified design agency to develop an Architectural Feasibility Study for the development of a suite of Maker Spaces – within the framework of the Royal Institute of British Architects development stages. The purpose of the Maker Spaces is to provide a physical and associated digital space through which to deliver its creative learning activity and part of its Communities programme. We are looking to appoint a practice that will work and support the Wales Millennium Centre team and its stakeholders, notably young people, communities and artists, in an active process to refine its requirements into a preferred option. We also expect cost consultants to be engaged as part of a sub-contract, to provide a budget envelope for the plans. This will enable us to undertake further fundraising for the projected capital development costs. Wales Millennium Centre would retain the rights to all work produced under this contract. If the initial contract is successfully completed it is likely that the practice will be asked to complete up to RIBA 3, if required. At the end of RIBA 3, it is currently assumed that a tender for design and build (RIBA 4-6) will be issued. All current assumptions will be reviewed at the end of the Architectural Feasibility Study and we would reserve the right not to move forward with the successful bidder at any stage.
