Abstract

NHS Blood & Transplant (NHSBT) intends to undertake a procurement tender exercise for range of freezers which are suitable for the storage of frozen blood components (for transfusion), samples and reagents. The freezer offered must be classified as a medical device.

NHSBT now wishes to commence a formal procurement process and is seeking to engage with suppliers of freezers available in the marketplace. This will aid identification of opportunities and gauge market interest in this field.
We require the services to cover the following: -

• The freezer must be of a robust design for continual use within a busy laboratory, manufacturing, or despatch area. Doors are likely to be opened frequently at the start of a shift and ‘warm’ items returned to the freezer after use Temperatures of test kits and reagents may be up to 22 degrees after use.
• The freezer must maintain the specified internal temperatures when working in a laboratory environment where temperatures can vary from +18 to +26 degrees C.
• The freezer must maintain temperature within acceptable range to ensure product, sample, or reagent integrity. The range accuracy of alarm setting must be +/- 0.10C and accuracy of thermometer must be +/-1.0 degrees or better. For a -400C freezer the tolerance must be +/- 50C or better. For a -35 degrees C the freezer the tolerance must be +/- 4 degrees C or better.
• The freezer must operate using a UK standard plug for a 240V electrical supply.

It is NHSBT's intention to hold pre-procurement supplier engagement meetings the week of January 22nd to January 31st 2024.the meetings will be held remotely; the dates are to be confirmed. To enable NHSBT to finalise arrangements (e.g. send meeting details and agree time slots) for the meeting’s, interested organisations are required to send an expression of interest via email to Sahithi Bandi - sahithi.bandi@nhsbt.nhs.uk no later than 17:00 hrs (GMT) on 01/12/2023. No compensation etc. will be paid if a tender or resulting framework agreement is withdrawn for any reason. Bidders should take part in this process only on the basis that they fully understand and accept this position.

It should be noted that this procurement exercise may allow other Health authorities to use any agreements awarded.
