Abstract

Cadw, the Welsh Government’s historic environment service, is looking to enhance the visitor experience at Caerphilly Castle through a programme of works to regenerate the site to include the refurbishment/remodelling of the Great Hall and the construction of a new build Visitor Centre. To maximise this opportunity, Cadw wish to begin early contractor involvement to appoint a main contractor at the beginning of the process. The estimated total construction budget is approximately £3.6m to £3.9m. The anticipated construction start date will be during the second quarter of 2021. The proposed contract will be through the NEC4 Option A with PSC. The successful contractor will need to be able to demonstrate experience of delivering a contract of this nature ie traditional conservation and modern construction within an historical setting and works to a monument of significant historical and cultural importance.
