Bryn Caled (Penmachno Pilot) Peatland Restoration Project

Description of the goods or services required

This Request for Proposal Single Stage (RFP1) sets out the Trust’s situation and objectives in respect of Bryn Caled Peatland Restoration for an initial term of seven months (until mid-March 2027). The Trust is seeking bids from a range of Bidders as to their capacity, capability, economic standing and relevant experience, as well as their proposed solution and price for meeting the requirements of the Opportunity.

Total quantity or scope of tender

Total restoration area: 105 ha

Key work items include:

1.38 km ditch blocking

2.17 ha bare peat restoration

0.67 km hag reprofiling

5.17 km small, medium and large-sized gully blocking/reprofiling

Delivery includes:

machine-based restoration (excavators, tracked plant)

handwork in inaccessible areas

supply of materials, plant, fuel and logistics

Contractors must also provide weekly, monthly, and end-of-project reporting.

3 Conditions for Participation

3.1

Minimum standards and qualification required

Key constraints contractors must work within:

Environmental & designations

SSSI, SPA, SAC restrictions on disturbance and design.

Bird breeding seasons and protected species considerations.

Physical/site constraints

Wet peat, peat slide risk, standing water, rocky outcrops.

Watercourse crossings (buffers and pollution prevention required).

Access and operations

Use of low ground pressure machinery required.

Access routes must be agreed and reinstated post-works.

Stakeholders & land use

Coordination with:

National Trust

Peatland Officer

graziers and local stakeholders

Regulatory/management

Must comply with CDM Regulations 2015.

Health & Safety documentation and Construction Phase Plan required.
