Abstract

This is a three-year contract spanning 2026-2028. To contribute to mitigating for the impact of the Llys y Fran dam, namely the reduced movement of sediment and typically low flows in the stretch of river immediately below the dam, and to improve spawning habitat for salmonids, West Wales Rivers Trust is seeking a contractor to undertake the following over the course of three years: - Cleaning and de-compacting riverbed gravel in the stretch of the Afon Syfynwy immediately below the Llys y Fran dam. Presently riverbed gravel is highly compacted and covered in fine sediment, significantly reducing the quality of this spawning habitat. - Introducing up to 100 tonnes of fresh gravel per year for three years into the same stretch of river to boost availability of spawning habitat in the Afon Syfynwy downstream from the dam. The contractor will be responsible for extracting gravel from the donor site, and for providing all required plant machinery and sediment control.
