Abstract

Since the 1970s Puffin Produce has been proud to offer Welsh customers the best Welsh potatoes, grown, picked and packed here in Pembrokeshire. Puffin Produce is now the largest supplier of Welsh produce in Wales, supplying a wide variety of potatoes and seasonal vegetables to multiple major retailers and wholesalers. A full specification is available for download, within this notice, however, in summary the Project Definition is as follows: Puffin Produce are looking to automate their potato packing factory. The solution must address the minimum below quality requirements to meet our needs: o Be able to handle all customer transit packaging according to Puffin Produce portfolio. o Be able to receive transit packaging via conveyor infeed. o All conveyors/transport belts should be fitted with some means to ensure that nothing can fall from height – guarding or other. o Bags of finished product should be confirmed as being a ‘conforming product’ via check-weighing upgraded solution as per our customer specification; arranged and packed in to a customer tray at the time of the tray being presented automatically to the production line. Ideally this tray to be vibrated gently to optimise tray fill, as well as safeguard against damage occurring to finished product during stacking. o Check weighing should be able to meet the infeed bag speed as presented in ‘Target Bag Capacities’ o Completed tray should be weighed following its filling. o Completed tray should be ejected and handed over to transit packaging system by way of conveyor. o Completed bdu production should have the option to stack bdu’s automatically, or not -depending on customer specification. Ideally the bdu should be vibrated gently to ensure load fill is optimised and to safeguard against damage occurring to finished product during load fill/stacking o It needs to be able to tie-in with existing MES system o It needs to be able to tie in with our existing SCADA solution o All machinery directives related to 2006/42/EC will need to be complied with in particular safety of related parts 13849 – parts 1 & 2 o Metrics, by way of SQL server should be available to use for reporting performance and development.
