Abstract

Funding was approved to purchase an O-Arm Mobile CT Imaging System with associated maintenance. The bid for funding was supported to remain competitive for commercial clinical trials which are now focussing on delivering gene therapies at scale using current clinically available systems. The trials using MRI guided gene therapy delivery to the brain are not commercially scalable due to high all-day costs of MRI scanner time, expensive bespoke intra MRI surgical delivery systems (Clearpoint) and the time taken per case. Studies going forward will utilise intraoperative CT systems which are commercially available already, allowing surgeries to be performed much more quickly and in standard neurosurgical operating theatres. Without this technology the HB will not be able to run these trials going forward and will lose current international reputation and commercial trial income.
