Abstract
Bryn Fawnog is a 60-hectare site, centred around grid reference SH 94016, leased to the RSPB by Natural Resources Wales (NRW). A former commercial forestry block planted on deep peat bordering the southern edge of the Berwyn Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), the site is now undergoing a programme of "Forest to Bog" restoration. This initiative aims to restore the area to a native bog habitat, delivering multiple benefits for nature, climate, and water.
The final block of commercial timber (8.26ha) was felled and the logs removed from the site during the winter of 2025/26. We are now seeking a contractor to remove the remaining brash left in situ by the felling operations, which will facilitate further hydrological restoration of the peat body over the coming years. Bog habitats such as those found at Bryn Fawnog are highly delicate. As such, we are seeking a contractor with the specific skills, knowledge, and aptitude to deliver this contract in a manner that protects and supports the ongoing recovery of these special habitats.
