Abstract

The project seeks to quantify the impact on soil compaction and on volume of water and sediment concentration losses from woodland rides following normal forestry activities by 2 low impact tractors (hiring in a tracked bobcat and an articulated alpine tractor). We intend to compare relative losses with a control (no management) and a conventionally managed area. The project will enable us to illustrate the relative merits of the different types of management with a view to highlighting the most appropriate equipment for the job.
