BEIS intends to appoint contractors to conduct a range of comparative experimental tests using both natural gas and hydrogen to compare the fitness for purpose of fittings and general pipework within a typical domestic property and to test and compare the gas tightness of existing pipework and fittings downstream of the emergency control valve. The contract will include research, development and testing studies.

This contract will be for a period of 6 months. In the event that related and unexpected works arise as a result of delivering the tests within each lot then the contract will be extended by up to a further 3 months where applicable to deliver this additional works under the relevant lot. BEIS intends to appoint contractors to conduct a range of comparative experimental tests using both natural gas and hydrogen that simulate scenarios found in domestic environments to quantify the relative risk of using hydrogen versus natural gas as part of demonstrating and de-risking the use of hydrogen for heating in UK homes and businesses.

This work is part of the Hy4Heat programme and will be managed and coordinated by Arup+, who have been appointed by BEIS as the programme management contractor for the Hy4Heat programme.
