Overweight and obesity presents a major challenge to the current and future health of the local population. Higher Body Mass Index (BMI) is associated with an increased risk of morbidity and mortality from a range of conditions and contributes to increased health and social care costs.
Tackling the obesity rates in Northamptonshire and providing weight management support is a key element of Northamptonshire Public Health’s efforts to improve health and wellbeing in the adult population as cited in the 2020 Northampton Health, Care and Wellbeing Plan.

II.2.4) Description of the procurement
The successful provider(s) shall establish and deliver a 12 session programme within a 15-week window of evidence-based support for people to reduce and continue to manage their weight. This must include weekly coaching support and where necessary be suitable for groups of people with a variety of additional needs. The programme should include, but is not limited to:
• evidence-based advice, information and support to manage weight and maintain a healthy weight;
• evidence-based advice and information on safe and appropriate levels of physical activity;
• evidence-based advice and information on healthy eating, including food buying, storing and preparation, and this is culturally appropriate to a diversity of groups;
• marketing and recruitment plan.
