Abstract

The aim of this procurement process is to procure a state-of-the-art flow cytometer which can measure phototrophy and phagotrophy by mixoplanktonic protists. This instrument needs to be capable of handling suspensions of mixoplankton and their prey at natural abundance levels (coastal waters as well as freshwater bodies). It will also need to provide bacterial analysis, counts and information about pigment (e.g., chlorophyll and phycobiliprotein) concentration. The instrument needs to have a flexible optical parameterization system to enable discrimination between different marine and freshwater plankton species within the size range of 0.1 to 100 μm. The instrument needs to be portable for use in field experiments.
