Abstract

The University is looking to procure a plot-scale trials Combine Harvester which will be used by our School of Agricultural, Policy and Development, as part of research into crops. Our research focuses on combinable crops, from evaluation of different varieties and cultivars to investigating novel agronomic approaches for UK crops, improving their yields and resilience to changing climates.

Due to the research requirements, the Combine Harvester must have the functionality to calculate the harvest index for the combined crops, by accurately measuring the weight of both straw and chaff. The Header of the combine also needs to be available as 1.5m and 2.5m widths to accommodate harvesting operations on different plot sizes and crops.

Additional capabilities must also include:

• Side knives. Left and Right Hand.

• Straw chopper

• Integrated GPS/GNSS positioning system.

• Near-infrared (NIRS) quality sensor for GPS tagged grain quality measurements.

The University published a VEAT notice on the 1st March and observed the 10 full calendar days and is now awarding the contract to Zurn.
