Abstract

The aims of this tender exercise were as follows.

• To select an OH Service who develops an understanding of the University aims, tasks and risk, the working environment, culture and individual requirements of the University. It will also be necessary to develop strong relationships with University staff to enable a clear understanding of needs.

• To have an OH service with professional, highly qualified and capable staff to provide medically accurate and timely communication and information to all key stakeholders.

• To have an efficient OH service for applicants/students to engage in the assessment of their suitability in a timely, efficient and transparent process. This includes the provision of an online portal (Supplier Portal) through which the online elements of the OH service are provided (see Appendix 2 for details of the Supplier Portal requirements) and automated systems and processes in order to minimise University staff intervention and reduce lack of attendance at clinics (DNAs).

• To have a proactive OH service who monitors the health clearance process and vaccination clearance in line with course and placement commencement dates.

• To select an OH service who provides management information and monitors key performance indicators to inform decision making and strategic development.

• To work with an OH service to develop: accessibility of data, interconnectivity and automated transfers to and from University systems in order to minimise manual input of data which has the potential for human error.

• To select an OH service who is committed to continual improvement of processes in order to deliver an efficient service to applicants/students.

The University has awarded a contract to an Occupational Health Service (OHS) supplier to assess the health of applicants/students. The OHS will be required to

• ensure that all applicants/students on regulated courses (teacher education, health and social care courses) meet the standards of health required by professional and statutory bodies, including provision of an immunisation service.

• undertake the health clearance for applicants on regulated courses within a timeframe aligned to the commencement of their course.

• provide relevant immunisations for applicants/students on relevant regulated courses within a timeframe aligned to the commencement of placement activity.

• provide medical opinion on the ability of any student to independently engage in managing their own health conditions whilst engaging with all aspects of their course of studying, including attendance at university and their attendance on placement where relevant.

• provide health screening and immunisation service for [PhD] students on an ad hoc basis
