Abstract

HCC's Children's Services has a statutory duty to assess whether Young Carers in the county have needs for support and, if so, to assess what those needs are and meet those needs through appropriate services.

The term 'Young Carer' should be taken to include children and young people under 18 who provide regular and ongoing care and emotional support to a family member who is physically ill or have poor mental health, a disability or substance misuse issues.

The delivery of the current Supporting Hampshire Young Carers contract expires on 31st August 2024. Hampshire County Council (HCC) will be looking to recommission this service.

The Service Provider will provide a county-wide service to carry out assessments, where required, and provide access for young people to receive face-to-face 1:1 support, provide tailored information, advice and mentoring along with regular peer support groups and group activities as appropriate. These activities may be provided by the Service Provider(s) or referred and signposted on to other organisations to deliver.
