To identify actions for local supply chain development, including scoping the potential for an initiative for Wales, similar to the Association of Scottish Hardwood Sawmillers (ASHS) , to benefit local businesses including farmers and small woodland owners, foresters, local sawmillers and furniture makers. • Undertake a desk top review of existing data and prepare gap analysis. • Compile availability and volumes of timber in Wales and the volumes sold annually. • List the active sawmills in Wales. • Assess the value-added operations of sawmills. • Map the flow of timber harvested in Wales by species through the supply • chain • Detail challenges of small mills • Assess the sawmill waste/by-product sales and assess the potential for higher value use • Explore the potential for setting up a Welsh equivalent of the Association • of Scottish Hardwood Sawmillers • Explore potential opportunities for development of the local timber supply • chain
