Abstract

In 2023 Cardiff & Vale University Health Board undertook a revolutionary procurement of the Electronic Pharmacy Medicines Administration (ePMA) system, enabling the digitalisation of paper-based drug charts across the Health Board to improve the safe administration of medicines with fully auditable trails from Pharmacist to Nurse. In February 2025, through capital funding received from Welsh Government, the Health Board has been able to invest in the outright purchase of hardware to meet current and future demands of the ePMA programme. To support ease of use, laptop carts have been introduced within wards to hold computer hardware and securely transport medicines, thereby increasing the efficiency of drug administration. Additionally, the need for further digital devices for the project to run smoothly will need to be purchased by capital funding. The purchase of the additional computer equipment will tie in with the already purchased laptop chargers to optimise the transfer from paper to electronic services. CPV: 30200000, 30200000.
